I have turned off updates completely on my Computer. Good to know there's an alternate workaround for Vista SP2 users having trouble with Dalai's workaround at http://wu.krelay.de/en/. Selective boot on the same hardware: Vista UltimateSP2 32bit, installed 2008, never reinstalled, runs still fine.
