Cleanup For SP2 Install


We are upgrading them soon to 1.5gig just to get another year or two out of them. Thanks in advance! No secondary hard drive after xp sp2 install Xp pro, boot failures after after install SP2. The free space on the C drive changed periodically so I knew something was going on.

What sp1 did not do is resolve the USB problem of not recognizing some external drives that work in Vista and XP. Whenever a new service pack comes out, there’s always going to be a few bugs and problems, and some of them might not even be noticed right away. It's also worth running the registry cleaner while you're there. Should get hotfix times down to about 30 secs each (depending on the hotfix, and PC speed).

FWIW I've had better luck when Linux is installed on it's own HDD. When setting the priority to High in task manager, do this for the main update.exe, and then watch the process list as new child update.exe processes get forked, and the old Changing the priority to high made my hung installs finish within 5 minutes. if you see that it stops processing hotfixes you might need to kill the one that's hung up and it will continue. SP1 d/l & install fast and smooth. Then plug all your USB devices back in and they will all work perfectly, provided that they are all XPSP3 compatible, which these days, they all are. the tvdebug.log file can sometimes get large, and can be deleted.the .rdb and .ldb files you need, if you delete them you'll lose the list of programs that have been allowed/disallowed. In short, unless you desperately need the space (and I mean desperately), then you should always leave the backup files. No problems here either. It worked.

That cured the problem. I made a new boot disk backup. It finished within 10 minutes of me turning off windows update. One more bit of info, sp1 seems to have lost the Restore files and cookies. Windows Update Cleanup Windows 10

Each time the child process completes, another event will be posted in the Event Viewer. so 2 to 3 hours before I'd feel comfortable dumping it.But, again, it works - logging in afterwards shows SP3 installed and all functionality in tact. Geez.

This solution also worked for me on Windows XP Home Edition w/SP2. I took all the prior precautions, including having task manager already loaded before installing SP3.
