How I would make a small shared hosting service for 10 friends and myself for free with an old IBM computer with Windows XP Home, 512mb of RAM, 40gb hard drive space, and a Pentium 4 2.4ghz processor?

Calling your web hosting would be great as they can give you the best option.This is also possible using either of these web servers one is abyss web server http://www.aprelium.com/abyssws/ and another is apache http://httpd.apache.org/ . How will this work? Just put the files you want to host into the htdocs folder. This is how to access your files; http://”yourdomain/ip”/ (name of file or folder) for example it should look like this http://58.486.361.15/hi.doc. However this only applies to the PC where you are hosting those files.
