Before running it on Vista or Win7, run not only SFC, but KB947821. I forced the computer to shut down and pressed f12 to get to the system recovery... Happy Computing!

My next idea is to uninstall NIS, leaving my settings and then try System Restore again. Then click "Miscellaneous Settings". Just gotta find what works with your style. Look for "Norton Product Tamper Protection" and turn it OFF.

My experience is, it will work now.Good luck! So my only hope IS to uninstall it again and run System Restore. I went back to the image protocol eventually, at first using Ghost, then, due to ITS unreliability, finally settling on DiskImage, which, alas, does not seem to have a Win8 version Just because they have admin access, there are some things they are not supposed to be messing with without permission.

Just have to load a few programs back to system.

I believe it does slightly more than copy your registry, but not much more. So when I'm wanting to do a System Restore on any PC running AVG, FREE or Pro (makes no difference), I right click on the system tray AVG icon and then System Security norton internet securityI have the latest version of norton internet security. My Windows 7 System Restore just doesn't want to work!

How System Restore gets corrupted has always kept me wondering.As mentioned earlier, I also use Acronis, with several image backups. I recently installed build 7100 on my mother's machine and she insisted that Norton was installed. I also had right click errors causing explorer.exe to freeze and need to be shut down.
