A couple of times when I restarted the computer, after it hadshut down by itself,it went right back into windows. OR, you could reformat and check to see if the problem presists. This will take you to a separate menu of Hardware Abstraction Layer's where you can choose an appropriate HAL that supports ACPI. Please try the request again.

A problem with one of these devices or a driver supporting it are often the cause of shutdown problems. I can start the machine in safe mode and it does not crash, but I don't know how to diagnose the problem.

I will add though that my viewpoint toward BIOS updates is "If it ain't broke, don't update it." I just took the wand of a vacuum cleaner and sucked out the dust. Therefore, more or less anything compromising the operating system during the shutdown process could force this reboot.
