It clarified my doubts I had on svchost process. You should not be afraid to disable the BITS service as it will not, in any way, affect the way your computer runs on an everyday basis. Hope this is some help. I have used the repair install as a last resort on a couple of occasions. More Help

This is by far the best article on this topic out there! I had to do a complete rebuild of the OS and the applications. and not skipping That's usually not the computer, but the speed of your internet connection. Till yesterday that I've found this page and articles, I've tried several things but couldn't fix it. At home running McAfee and have just had BDC problems with Vista recovery - hoping trojan is not in there but heaps more svchost programs running than I recall.
