It just hangs on updating and NEVER succeeds. I did the suggested steps of clearing the log files and forcing a new c:\windows\ softwaredistribution folder. In the services window double click on the service you want to enable or disable, and you better know what your doing because you can make Windows un-bootable if you disable Step 2.

Thankfully, there is quite a lot you can do to try and fix this issue and recover the excessive amount of RAM the svchost.exe (netsvcs) process typically takes over. I stopped and restarted the "wuauserv" service and the problem appears to be resolved.
