  1. The windows update process "wuauserv" was completely consuming the single core CPU so that the machine would do nothing in W7 unless wuauserv was disabled.

Thnks for your help! Svchost.exe (netsvcs) High Cpu Had no troubles at all for many years until just a few days ago, and its been driving me crazy. The svchost.exe task that is consuming high CPU usage should automatically float to the top of the list.
