Seagate said they wouldn't RMA without a fault code from SeaTools. I think the PCH in that one is solid, not known for any systematic failures.... It should be on a sticker on the bottom. The fact that this happens occasionally points towards there being a loose or bad connection.

The general impression was while its ok, HDTune (which I have not used) is more reliable in accessing the health of a drive. Occasionally, when booting into Windows (both 7 and 8 showed the same issue), my SSD will operate fine (as it should since its the OS drive) but my second drive, a thanks! I would avoid Adaptec - they have a well-deserved reputation for sketchy drivers, their Linux/BSD support is terrible, and even for systems like VMWare where you would expect a solid effort... thanks.
