Question by matrix season: Anyone know about web site hosting?
I would like to start a SMALL web design business where I intend to buy hosting for maybe 10 or 20 websites for customers that won’t have a need to have their own Control Panel. Most hosting sites seem to have pretty cheap hosting plans where you can host “Unlimited Domains”. It sounds like this would be all I need, as long as I didn’t need each website “owner” to be able to have their own control panel, because I think there would be one Primary domain (my web design company’s domain) and all the other websites I host would be “add-ons”.
At least this is what Host Gator told me.
Assuming you understand what I’m looking to do, do you agree that one of these cheaper hosting plans that off hosting for unlimited domains would be all I need (usually they are about 5 – 8 dollars per month)?

And if anyone could elaborate on exactly what “addons” are, that would be great. I just need to make sure that if one of my customers has the domain www.theirwebsite.com and it’s one of these “addons” in my hosting account, they will still be able to get to the website by typing “www.theirwebsite.com” into any web browser. I’m a little fuzzy on the downside of “addons” (if any)

With cPanel, some hosting packages from certain web hosts give you the ability to host what’s called “Addon domains” which means that you host the domain whatever.com for whoever, but your domain is still yourdomain.com. If that doesn’t make sense, go here: http://www.2serveu.net/cpanel-tutorials/addondomain.html

Your user whom owns the domain whatever.com would be able to get ftp access.

Hello!

I have a small web design company. I offer my clients the whole deal, I setup everything for them because these are mostly small businesses that don’t have much web knowledge.

So I setup the hosting, e-mails, design a website and upload it, I do everything, so they don’t have to know anything about cpanel, ftp, e-mail etc.

So far I’ve been using a hosting company that I’m not satisfied with anymore, especially their support.

I am now looking for a hosting company that would offer me hosting of approximately 100 websites on one account.

Can someone please suggest any hosting company. Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

If a hosting site says that it will ‘host unlimited domains’, will it still cost to register the domain?

I’m looking through the different hosting sites and a whole bunch of them say that they will host “unlimited domains”, yet also state that they will give me a free domain.

So by hosting unlimited domains, (examples: bluehost, godaddy), does that mean I can make as many sites as I want? Like www.mysite.com and www.acompletelydifferentsite.com ? Or can I only HOST the entire site, but the domains must be paid for separately?

Sorry if that’s a little bit confusing.

I have a need to host a half dozen domains, four of which are for clients. I figure I can make a couple of bucks here. Godaddy.com has a deal for $6.99 a month with unlimited domains, but I don’t think this would be a reseller arrangement. What is the difference between this and a reseller account? Couldn’t I host my client’s domains on this account and charge them? Confused…

My hosting plan (hostmonster) has unlimited domains in which you can host. They have a program (free) under Fantastico that you can install in your web site that is designed specifically to host other domains, manage hosting plans easily and so on. Can you host someone’s web site for free without a problem? If not, why do they include hosting management programs in your service? Confused. Thank you.
