I just experienced the same problem and your post just saved me a while lot if trouble. I can boot into another copy of windows thus I have access to a working set of files and drivers on this specific hardware setup. Yeah, I know I should backup, but I just don't have that kind of time. If Windows files have been damaged or configured incorrectly, Startup Repair can help diagnose and fix the problem.
