Is it legal for me to download MP3′s from my computer to a file hosting service and then put them on my blog?

I want to put music on my blog for my readers to download but I don’t ewant to break any copyright laws. I know of a blog that does it and they are wildly popular. If I purchase the music then offer it for download am I breaking the law?

You need to obtain permission to use the music on your website.
Ye, It is illegal but no one cares.
Yes it IS illegal and YES musicians DO CARE (if you need proof go to youtube you will notice countless videos with the audio removed)
your best bet is to go to some ‘indie’ music websites find some stuff you like and contact the musician
most if not all the time the musician’s don’t care if you use there song as long as they get credit for it
Let me call my lawyer.
I’ll get back to you.
If you purchase the right to distribute the music, you can do it. If you purchase a CD, all you’re purchasing is the right to own a single copy – the CD.
You’re not really breaking any law you’re thinking of (violation of copyright is a civil tort) – but conspiracy to commit theft and accessory to theft come to mind. And, if you’re in the US, and 3 or more people download from your site, RICO comes into effect.
