I wouldn’t think that disconnecting the video cable from the motherboard can affect video on the external monitor. Only after pulling out all my hair and making up new four letter words! Just in case try to connect an external monitor and check out the video output. If you still experience the same problem after you reseated the video cable, I would probably replace the cable (it’s much cheaper then the motherboard).
