I ended up formatting, re-installing Vista, installing all Vista updates EXCEPT the video card drivers. Remove all the display adapters.

Restarted twice {to be sure} and it was fixed. I'm having the same issues can't log in the screen is just black. Blank deskop upon startup and an empty tool bar. I think originally what happened, was I deleted some temp files yesterday.

It sounds like the driver may be the issue here. and when I boot up the system, everything looks normal on boot except after the welcome screen, the display goes blank. Many Many THANKS!
